The connection to Vienna returns to the airport in Krakow-Balice after 14 months, from where you can fly further – to over two hundred locations around the world. After the pandemic, Austrian Airlines is rebuilding its network of connections, which will accelerate the return of Kraków Airport to normalcy. By the end of June, we will fly from Krakow to the Austrian capital (and back) four times a week, from July – seven times a week, and from August – twice a day.
Brand news from Krakow Airport!
Today we are happy to welcome the Austrian Airlines plane that flew to Krakow from Vienna. Vienna – Krakow – Vienna is one of the favorite connections of our passengers. Before the 2019 pandemic, they traveled through the Austrian capital to more than 200 different airports around the world.
Radosław Włoszek, president of Kraków Airport
He adds that Vienna is not only one of the top cities where Krakow and Małopolska residents like to spend their free time, even at the weekend, but is also the 5th popular transfer port from which you can go further into the world. The long common history and tradition of social, cultural, and economic contacts additionally increase the importance of this connection.
“We also hope that tourists from Austria will gladly return to visit Kraków and Małopolska, he added” – says Radosław Włoszek.
Austrian Airlines – a key player
Austrian Airlines offers not only the routes it operates (110 connections from Vienna in 2021), but also the option of using connections from other airlines as part of the STAR ALLIANCE cooperation. This gives Kraków Airport passengers great opportunities to plan a quick and comfortable journey.
The authorities of Małopolska see the return of further connections to Kraków Airport as an opportunity for tourists to return to the region and its capital; In recent years, the development of the airport near Krakow has driven numerous sectors of the economy of our region, and vice versa: the increasing interest of tourists in Krakow and Lesser Poland attractions has led to a record-breaking boom in Krakow-Balice airport. The pandemic has dramatically disrupted this, but thanks to the close and harmonious cooperation of all interested parties, there is a chance for a swift reconstruction of battered businesses.
The vaccination encouraged people to look for vacations abroad again
The vaccination campaign, which is developing at its best in Kraków and Małopolska, in conjunction with the decline in the number of cases and deaths, allows accelerating the thawing of critical sectors of the economy. Krakow hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, museums, tourist, entertainment, and cultural facilities are ready for full opening, and tourists in Poland and around the world are hungry for expeditions and rest, thanks to which Krakow and Lesser Poland appear more and more in travel plans.
In June and July, shooting for the new Netflix production will be made in Krakow. ABM studio responsible for casting is looking for extras, episodists, and professional actors aged 50+. The production itself is shrouded in mystery.
Netflix is looking for extras in Krakow
“For 2 months of shooting, we will need a huge number of extras, episodists and professional actors, so if you are passionate about the industry, you want to experience your first adventure on a film set, or just treat it as a part-time job. We invite you to apply” – we read in the release ABM studies.
It is known that the film/series will be shot not only in Krakow. The ABM studio emphasizes that people who qualify for production will be able to continue the film adventure in the next part of the shooting at the Baltic Sea.
The implementation planned in Krakow is a film project of the Netflix platform. And this is what is known for sure. As the CEO of the ABM studio, Bartosz Stasina, informed us, the details of the project itself are classified as confidential.
Also, the Krakow Festival Office, the organizer of the Krakow Film Commission, whose main task is to help filmmakers working in Małopolska, does not want to reveal details. He mentions numerous “restrictions” regarding communication about Netflix’s projects.
Speculations about “Axis Mundi”
There was information in the media that it was about the series “Axis Mundi“, the plot of which is to be based on Slavic mythology and Krakow legends. The main character of the new Netflix series is a medical student – Alex. The girl becomes embroiled in an intrigue in which she will confront the world of Slavic beliefs. Magdalena Lankosz, Anna Sieńska and Gaja Grzegorzewska are responsible for the script of the series.
However, the director of the ABM studio denied the information that it was this production, moreover, the ABM studio is not involved in the production of “Axis Mundi“, and the shooting of the series has already ended.
So far, it is known that for the mysterious Netflix project, which will be created in Krakow, many extras, actors, and episodists aged 50+ are needed, and that the production will be created in the coming months.
The inhabitants of Krakow were very keen on the idea of running special city buses that will take Krakow residents to popular recreational places outside the city, such as the Niepołomice Forest or the Ojców Forest. The response was so great that the city is planning to launch 4 bus lines for the May weekend!
Officials of the Public Transport Authority prepared special questionnaires in which they asked residents whether it was worth creating the so-called recreational bus lines. These would transport residents to popular recreational areas on the outskirts of Krakow. Specifically, it is about the Niepołomicka, Ojców, Dolinki Podkrakowskie and Przylasek Rusiecki forests.
Over 3.5 thousand polls. Residents want recreational buses
The proposal hit the spot. The residents filled out over 3,500 questionnaires and strongly supported the idea of ZTP.
“The residents mainly want to travel to Ojców. They prefer the departure time between 9 and 12 and return in the afternoon. For example, 62 percent. of the respondents were in favor of the hours of departure to Ojców between 9 and 12” – tells us Sebastian Kowal, spokesman of the ZTP.
Officials emphasize that the surveys also wanted to check the transport behavior of residents. It turned out that the inhabitants of Kraków travel mainly by car to popular recreational places, but a large part would use public transport if there was such an option.
The interest was so great that officials plan to launch recreational bus lines at the turn of April and May, i.e. for a picnic.
“We now have to adjust the appropriate frequency of the buses. Having planned courses on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and on additional days off. We thought about the frequency every hour, but after the surveys we can see that there is more demand. So we will consider courses every 45, 40 or 30 minutes. We see that the offer of courses every hour is insufficient” – adds Sebastian Kowal.

Polish people are facing further changes related to the coronavirus pandemic. “We want to give up the possibility of replacing masks with visors or scarves. The helmets can be used additionally to the mask”, announced the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski. It is forbidden to cover your face only with visors, scarves or the so-called chimneys is to come into force this Saturday (February 27).
Quarantine for the Southern border
The government also decided to introduce a quarantine obligation for people crossing Poland’s southern border (with Slovakia and the Czech Republic). The condition for release from quarantine is presenting a negative test for the last 48 hours.
The government decided to introduce new restrictions only in one voivodship, where the highest increase in infected people is recorded.
We want the education in grades 1-3 in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship to return to the remote mode, so that galleries, museums, cinemas, and other public places will be closed.
Adam Niedzielski, Minister of Health
Podhale breathed a breath
After the announcement of this information, the highlanders, who were afraid that the government would close the Podhale businesses again, were relieved.
We are glad that there will not be another lockdown for the tourism industry, that we can still work and earn. On the other hand, this conference is a strong signal for us to take care of sanitary restrictions even more. Therefore, we appeal to all owners of hotels and guesthouses, as well as the inhabitants of Podhale, to be careful, to sensitize their guests, to follow the instructions to cover their mouth and nose with masks and to distance themselves. Together, we must ensure that we are all healthy and can continue to work.
Agata Wojtowicz from the Tatra Chamber of Commerce
Theaters planned for longer than 14 days!
On the other hand, Bartosz Szydłowski, artistic director of Łaźnia Nowa, admits that when announcing the repertoire for the second half of February, he hoped that theaters would remain open for longer than the conditional 14 days.
That is why on 27, 28 February, and 1 March we have planned the presentation of one of the last premieres of Łaźnia, a performance about masculinity and well-received at the Divine Comedy Festival: “Autobiography Just In Case” directed by Michał Buszewicz. It seems that we are already used to the constant changes and dynamics of the situation in the country, so work in the theater must be continuous and on a regular basis. We are glad that we will be able to continue playing because we have already felt the energy of our audience, which came back and filled the Bathhouse last weekend at the performance “Ginczanka. Recipe for the simplicity of life ”. It drives us. In March, we are planning the premiere of “Breath” directed by Franciszek Szumiński at the New Epiphanies Festival, and it may not have to be online.
Bartosz Szydłowski
The third wave is accelerating
Results show that the 3rd wave is accelerating in Poland. The dynamics of infections are beginning to catch up with those we dealt with at the beginning of the second wave in October last year.
dam Niedzielski, Minister of Health
The minister pointed out that the average daily infection counted for the last week practically reached the level of 8,000 cases, and a week ago it was less than 6,000. In the last week, an increase in the occupancy of beds in the covid infrastructure was also observed.
Adam Niedzielski will emphasize that the most disturbing situation concerns the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
In this voivodeship, we exceed the average for the whole country more than twice.
The Minister of Health
Helmets are not a good protection
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz, a national consultant in the field of epidemiology, informed that one unchanging element that determines how we can avoid infection is the use of personal protection, i.e. masks.
Masks that adhere tightly to the face are able to reduce transmission, i.e. filter out over 90 percent of pathogens that are in the immediate vicinity. Helmets are not good protection, they are not recommended protection against the virus. It can be said that they constitute a mechanical barrier that, to some extent, protects our eye mucosa.
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz
The expert added that the recommended masks are surgical masks and above.
Disposable masks can also be used. The key is, however, to wear the masks so that they cover the mouth and nose.
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz
The loosening of restrictions
Let us recall that in mid-February, due to the stabilization of the disease, the government decided to loosen the restrictions. Hotels and accommodation are open from mid-February. From February 12, cinemas, theaters, philharmonics, operas – all in accordance with the applicable sanitary regime and up to 50 percent. available places. Some sports facilities are also open, incl. slopes and swimming pools.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin said then that over PLN 182 billion has already been allocated to help companies affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and within three weeks from the so-called Shield 2.0 – PLN 4 billion 900 million.
New updates every 14 days – stay tuned!
Members of the government informed that new solutions regarding the restrictions are being introduced conditionally, and that further decisions will depend on the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Health informed us that we had crossed the barrier of 10,000. cases per day. This is the highest daily result since January 6. The death toll from the virus has also increased. 372 people have died in Poland due to COVID-19.
As far as Małopolska is concerned, it is ranked 7th in the latest statistics of the Ministry of Health, among all provinces with the highest daily number of infections.

Na Zabłociu – in the building at ul. Tadeusza Romanowicza 4 (in the former Telpod electronics factory) – a self-service beer shop has been opened. You can get a bottle on-site, and you pay with a special card.
The only self-service bar in Krakow!
Let us remind you that due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is still not possible to eat in pubs and restaurants “on the spot”.
The owners of a new – as they say “the only one in Krakow” – self-service beer store, opened in Zabłocie, came up with an innovative idea. It’s called “NALE SE”.
“We offer 12 taps and 2 PET bottle formats – 0.5 and 1 L, but with us, you decide how much to pour!” – we read on the store’s Facebook profile.
Self-service beer shop. How it’s working?
Payment handling is related to the sale of prepaid cards for multiple reloads, which can be purchased at the premises. These can be topped up on the spot or via a special mobile application. Then it is placed in the reader above the tap with the beer that interests us and poured as much as we want (and the funds on the card).
We have to postpone the plans for a pub where you can sit and drink a beer for a while because of the current restrictions. However, we are opening up as a store where you can stock up on bottles and pour to take away
The originator of “Nalej Se”
Self-service beer shop in Zabłocie
“We hope to give our clients a lot of fun while playing the role of a bartender. And something good to taste while a normal pub visit is still a memory” – he adds.
To make your bar experience even richer, the restaurant also serves a wide range of snacks and beer dishes.
Shop, pub, or museum?
The beer shop and multitap were opened in Zabłocie in a private student residence building. The huge building used to be the seat of the former Telpod, a factory of electronic components that powered UNITRA devices, including TV sets, tape recorders and other audio-video devices, once hosted in every Polish home.
We commemorated the times of one of the largest companies in post-war Krakow. In cooperation with the Communications School Complex, we have created a decor and an interactive wall on which there will be antique devices and components manufactured in the plant since 1946 – says the owner and originator of the exhibition. We encourage you to visit our store and the museum section, where you can personally listen to reports about the facility from historic Kasprzak tape recorders. And return home with a few bottles of the best Polish beers
owners of “Nalej Se”

The Road Authority of the City of Krakow presented the immediate plans for the construction of city parking lots. The construction of park & ride car parks in Bronowice and at the Hutnik hall in Nowa Huta is to begin this year. Tenders for the design of another 6 park & ride parking lots, including the extension of the existing facility in Ruczaj, are also to be announced. There are also plans for smaller neighborhood car parks.
This year, the Roads Authority of the City of Krakow plans to start the construction of 2 park & ride parking lots. The first of them, for about 200 places, is to be built as part of the construction of the transfer junction in Bronowice.
Parking park and ride Bronowice
The contract for the construction of the node in Bronowice has been signed, we have concepts, now the contractor will start design works, then construction works – we plan that they will start at the end of the year
ZDMK
As part of the investment, a public transport bus station will be designed, equipped with the infrastructure necessary for passenger service, in particular: bus parking spaces, stops, ticket sales points, waiting rooms, information systems, and toilets.
The station will be located inside the connector of the road junction at ul. Balicka and the Home Army. The roofing bus station is to be the first tier multi-level parking for cars where the driver and leaving your vehicle will be able to change for the tram, bus, or train (park and ride systems). The investment is to be carried out by Budimex, which submitted a tender for PLN 51.6 million.
“Suche Stawy” park and ride parking at the Hutnika Kraków hall
In the case of the park & ride car park “Suche Stawy” Suche Stawy, ZDMK plans to announce a tender so that the first works will start this year. This parking lot for approx. 90 vehicles has been planned for several years. The idea for this investment is to renovate the damaged surface of the existing above-ground car park in front of the Hutnik hall made of concrete slabs. The lighting will also be recreated with the electricity supply system.
In order to adapt the car park for the needs of the “park and ride” system, devices with the parking system software will be installed. Among them, there will be terminals, barriers, automatic cash register, monitoring, and a visual information system – boards informing about the car park filling status.
More park & ride car parks in Krakow are planned
In addition, it is planned to announce a tender for the development of design documentation along with obtaining construction permits for the following tasks:
extension (superstructure) of the P&R Czerwone Maki car park in Ruczaj;
P&R “Mydlniki SKA” (SKA – fast agglomeration railway) car park, next to the railway stop (ul. Balicka-Gradowa);
P&R “Bieżanów-Drożdżownia SKA” car park at the Kraków Drożdżownia railway stop (area at the intersection of Rakuś – Zamłynie – Lipowskiego Streets);

P&R “Księcia Józefa” car park (Wodociągowa Street);
parking in the vicinity of the Kraków – Opatkowice SKA railway stop.
Additional parking spaces for cars

construction of parking spaces on the estate Spółdzielczy, bl. 8 (in 2021, the development of design documentation is to be completed and the construction of parking spaces on an area of approximately 400 sq m is to be started);
reconstruction and extension of the car park in front of the Jordanian garden at ul. Kielecka 9 (in 2021, the development of design documentation is to be completed and the investment will be completed, parking spaces will be built on a total area of approx. 290 sq m).
Housing estate car parks
As part of the parking space construction program, this year the following car parks are to be built:
on os. Metallurgical – a contract was signed for the development of design documentation (deadline June 2021),
at ul. Zuchów – a contract for the development of design documentation was signed (deadline June 2021).
The Rząska-Mydlniki-Wapiennik park and ride car park is being completed

On Monday, February 15, a new traffic organization was introduced near Wawel. The changes will result in the passage of ul. st. Idzi and Podzamcze will be severely limited. There will be no more transit on this route. The ride is still to be made available there only for selected vehicles, including those belonging to the inhabitants of the center of Krakow.
Changes in the traffic near Wawel Castle / Wawel Hill
We are finishing the process of introducing changes to the traffic organization near Wawel, which has been going on for over a week. We are implementing a project prepared by the Public Transport Authority and the Municipal Traffic Engineer to calm traffic in the area of the Royal Castle. As part of the changes, from Monday, St. Idzi and Podzamcze will be included in the restricted traffic zone. Most of the people who have used this ride so far will not be able to do it anymore
Michał Pyclik from the Road Administration of the City of Krakow
In the office, they emphasize that arranging parking spaces for cars, the movement of electric cars, facilitating the movement of pedestrians, and thus increasing safety, are the main goals of the solutions being implemented near Wawel.
“The next step in the implementation of the city’s transport policy plan, as well as part of improving the quality of space in the cultural park, is the inclusion of Podzamcze and św. Idzi, where there is already a residential zone to the currently restricted traffic zone” – explains the city hall. “According to the assumptions, the new traffic organization together with the currently binding residence zone in this area is to significantly contribute to the improvement of the safety of vulnerable road users” – they add.
Who will be able to move freely there?
Only the following persons will be authorized to enter the restricted traffic zone: – residents with a K type parking subscription for sectors A1, A2, A4; – from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. only for and for the duration of loading and technical service – bicycles, horse-drawn carriages, consular corps, diplomatic corps, public transport, taxis, post office special services, municipal services, labeled medical assistance; – commuting to the property, garage, or reserved space at ul. Podzamcze, ul. st. Idzi and the Wawel Royal Castle; – commuting to the property at ul. Grodzka 64; – supplying the property at ul. st. Gertrude 26-29; – drivers with a permit from the Krakow City Roads Authority.
Councilors Rafał Komarewicz and Dominik Homa from the presidential club “Przyjazny Krakow” submitted a joint interpellation to the president of Krakow with an application for the purchase of new minibusses and the launch of new bus lines in Krakow.
“We are asking you to buy more Karsan minibusses, which are able to reach more residents with the offer of Krakow public transport” – emphasize the councilors Komarewicz and Homa.
Lack of public transport in certain areas
They point out that due to various difficulties in road traffic and the ownership structure, residents of the areas of Bochenka, Bronowice, Przegorzał, and Wola Justowska streets are doomed to lack of public transport in the vicinity.
The Councillors proposition
The Councillors proposed to launch 2 new bus lines operated by Karsan minibuses:
Bronowice (Widok estate) – Na Błonie – Wola Justowska – Przegorzały – Salwator;
Kurdwanów – Cechowa – Podedworze – Loaf – Łużycka – Nowosądecka – Piaski Nowe or the 2nd option: Kurdwanów – Cechowa – Łużycka – Loaf – Podedworze – Piaski Nowe.
The councilors also ask in the interpellation that the answer to it should include an analysis of the proposed variants. “In the event that it is not possible to service the above-mentioned routes, please provide other communication solutions for the above-mentioned areas” – we read in the interpellation.
Minibusses are already in Krakow!
Let us recall that recently 2 minibusses, Karsany, with a length of approximately 6 m, have arrived in Krakow. There is room for 21 passengers inside. These are the smallest and most agile vehicles in the MPK SA fleet in Krakow.
Higher performance in narrow spaces
As the MPK in Krakow admits, the biggest advantage of these small buses is the ability to drive along narrow streets and through small intersections. Karsan mini buses are expected to perform well on routes such as line No. 176 (Bodzów – Kostrze OSP), where there are both very narrow roads and small loops, where there is very little space to turn back.
Passenger friendly – charge your tablet/phone on the go!
Apart from the maneuverability advantages of the Karsans, the vehicles are also passenger-friendly. They have a low floor. For people in wheelchairs, there is also a special place inside the vehicles and a folding platform by the door. The vehicles were also equipped with a passenger information system, air conditioning, and USB ports for charging the batteries of phones, tablets, and other mobile devices.
Driver comfort – they have that too!
With the driver’s comfort in mind, the door has been designed exclusively for the driver. Panoramic windshield and large mirrors provide excellent visibility for drivers.
How much would it cost?
The purchase of 2 minibusses costs PLN 812 thousand PLN net. Before they can go to the streets and be able to carry passengers, they still have to undergo technical checks.
Marek Gancarczyk, the MPK spokesman, admits that this type of specialized buses are brought to a specific route. So first there is a decision to launch a new line, and then the rolling stock adapted to it as needed.
“We are winning the Friend of Krakow Badge” – is a campaign organized by the Grodzkie PTTK Society in Krakow. Currently, the 49th season of this campaign is underway – this time, however, unusual, because due to the epidemic, it takes the form of free, open online meetings, broadcast live on YouTube.
Who wants to earn a “Friend of Krakow” badge?
The general principles of the campaign are such that the Friend of Krakow badge can be obtained by anyone who participates in a certain number of lectures and walks around Krakow. Depending on the number of such meetings, a person can count on a bronze, silver, gold, or peacock badge.
Currently, due to restrictions related to the epidemic, walks are suspended, and meetings are only held online. They started in November and are planned until March, and are run by licensed city guides of PTTK in Krakow and museum staff.
What can you learn during these walks/sessions?
So far, several dozen online meetings have been held as part of the PTTK campaign “We are winning the Friend of Krakow Badge”. Their participants had the opportunity to listen to stories, for example, about the literary Krakow, the secrets of Długa Street, the Rakowicki cemetery, the defense of Krakow in the past centuries, about famous Krakow families, monasteries and monasteries, about lost churches or about old and modern Krakow libraries, city villas and palaces, theaters and cabarets, the Planty Park in Krakow, and the history and monuments of Podgórze.
The sessions on February 6th and 7th
This weekend, PTTK meetings also promise to be very interesting, so it’s worth making a reservation to take part in them. On Saturday, February 6, lectures on “Secrets of Krupnicza Street” (9:30) and “Krakow Synagogues” (11:30) are scheduled. However, on Sunday, February 7 at At 9:30 am there will be a meeting “Non-obvious Krakow. On the trail of Krakow artists’, and at 11:30 – lecture by the Society of Krakow History and Monuments Lovers “Krakow at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries” – for people who receive the “Pawim Piór” badge (the Peacock Badge).
Practical Information for the meetings
To take part in the walks as part of the campaign, it is enough to report to the meeting point specified in the program. Participation in the walks is free.
In the case of topics described under the slogan ” seat reservation “, you should contact the Grodzki PTTK Society in advance to download the “seat reservation ” – with the given time of entry. Seats result from the limitation of the number and size of groups in some visited facilities. Seats are issued against payment – the price includes an admission ticket to the visited facility and the VAT due.
