Masks are not required in clinics and hospitals. How many coronavirus infections are there?
No more masks in Hospitals and medical institutions
The Chief Sanitary Inspector applied to the Minister of Health to cancel the state of epidemic emergency. This was due to a significant decrease in the number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths caused by SARS-CoV-2. On Sunday, July 2, the Ministry of Health announced that only 4 COVID infections (including one recurrence) had been detected the previous day. 292 tests were performed.
The records
During the worst period of the Covid-19 pandemic in Poland, even tens of thousands of new infections were recorded daily (the record is just over 40,000). In total, since March 4, 2020, more than 6.5 million people have been infected with the dangerous coronavirus in our country, the Ministry of Health informs.
Malopolska is preparing to buy more fast trains and create better fast train lines in the very near future!
The tender is conducted in order to conclude a framework agreement for a period of 7 years. Therefore, the conclusion of the framework agreement will not mean an immediate order for the delivery of 56 trains. However, it is to guarantee the unification of the series of delivered trains in the future. It is also to have a significant impact on shortening the delivery time of vehicles that will be built on the basis of executive contracts.
“Purchases will be made on the basis of orders placed with the contractor selected in the tender. Individual orders and performance contracts depend on the current demand for EMUs and the availability of financing from the European Union.”
– Magdalena Opyd, press spokeswoman of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolskie Voivodeship
The amount of external funds obtained for this purpose will depend on how many trains are ultimately acquired. The Małopolskie Voivodeship is applying for funding for the purchase of 14 five-unit EMUs under the National Reconstruction Plan (KPO). In the event of a positive verification of the submitted application, the first performance contract will apply to the aforementioned 14 vehicles.
Orders for further trains will be able to be implemented if money from other European funds is available.
Train services are breaking records! Additional vehicles are needed
So far (in the years 2011 – 2021) the Małopolskie Voivodeship has purchased 47 trains. These vehicles were made available to the following companies-operators: Polregio and Koleje Małopolskie for the performance of transport services covered by public service contracts.
Last year turned out to be record-breaking in terms of the number of passengers transported by railway carriers operating trains in Małopolska – over 16 million people used their offer. This year, the result may be even better, because at the beginning of June a gigantic investment carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe was completed, consisting in the construction of a second, additional pair of tracks for the fast agglomeration railway on the section Kraków Główny – Kraków Płaszów, as well as an additional track on the section Kraków Płaszów – Krakow Biezanow.
The “side” tracks are intended for agglomeration and regional trains, and long-distance trains are to run in the middle. This solution is to facilitate traffic management and give carriers the opportunity to launch additional connections.
As part of the investment for over PLN 1.2 billion, m. three new bridges over the Vistula, railway flyovers (replaced the embankment) between ul. Kopernika and Miodowa, and a new stop, Kraków Grzegórzki, is to be launched in September.
Interest in train travel is growing and carriers need more vehicles to develop high-speed rail in agglomeration.
Renovations during the holidays – new PKP timetables will be available from September
For now, despite the commissioning of a new railway investment in the center of Krakow, the current timetable, which is valid from June 11 to September 2 this year, does not include revolutionary changes in courses. PKP PLK admits that the timetable for trains on the Kraków Główny – Kraków Płaszów section for the summer holidays has been developed in such a way that contractors can complete the necessary modernization works on the older tracks (implementation of these works before the completion of four railway tracks would significantly reduce the capacity of the existing double-track line) minimal impact on course completion.
It’s about, among others for work related to the stabilization of tracks on the turnout heads of stations, removal of temporary turnouts, reinforcement of the subgrade, and other track-related works in many places between the two largest passenger stations in the capital of Małopolska.
After another timetable change, i.e. from Sept. it will be possible to use all four tracks without any restrictions, a new Kraków Grzegórzki stop will be launched and it will be possible to run trains on all fast agglomeration lines every 30 minutes during peak hours, which so far has not been possible every hour.
The academic year is about to begin. But what does this mean for Krakow? Busy buses, crowds in the streets of the Old Town and a lot of joy that young people bring. What does October 1st mean for a student? Moving to a new city is sure to arouse excitement and positive emotions while arousing stress and anxiety. How to find yourself in a new place? Here you will find everything you should know about Krakow when you come here to study!
1. Moving around Krakow
In accordance with the regulations of MPK, students can get a public transport ticket discount.
To move freely about the city, without having a care in the world, it is best to buy seasonal tickets (monthly). The students that are not residents of Krakow can buy these tickets for a period of 1 to 3 months.
The ticket can be purchased in the Krakow City Card (mKKM) mobile application, available for iOS and Android. For those travelling by rail in Małopolska, an even better option will be to buy a ticket in the Małopolska Agglomeration Card (iMKA) application, which will additionally allow you to buy a train ticket.
Students of eight universities in Krakow (AGH, UJ, PK, UR, UP, WSZB, WSE, KA) have the opportunity to register their season tickets on the Electronic Student ID, which they will receive after the beginning of the academic year, after purchasing them online or in KKM machines. In case of doubt, students can go to the Ticket Sales Point (the one with the least amount of traffic is the one located in Krowodza Gorka).
As you have read in point 1, students get discounts on public transport – but not only that!
With a valid ID card, students will be able to eat cheaper in some Krakow restaurants, pay less in museums, and gyms or watch a movie in Multikino for only PLN 12.90 or in Cinema City for PLN 16-18. What’s more, students can also use Spotify for less than PLN 10 a month.
Pierogi at Babcia Malina (next to Słowacki Theater) – A treat!
3. Where to eat cheap in Krakow?
If you are in Krakow and you never tried the Bar Mlecnzy (Milk Bars) yet, you are in for a treat!
They are a remnant of the communist era and all the locals enjoy it. Good homemade food at a low price.
Here are the most popular Milk Bars where you can dine cheaply and properly: – “Targowy” Milk Bar (Al. Ignacego Daszyńskiego 19) – “Pod Temidą” Milk Bar (43 Grodzka Street) – “Krakus” Milk Bar (Limanowskiego Street) 16) – Milk Bar “Flisak” (ul. Kościuszki 1) – Żaczek (ul. Czarnowiejska 75) – Milk Bar “University” (ul. Czysta 5) – and the flagship Milk Bar “Centralny” (housing estate Centrum C 1)
Some may be surprised by this, but we assure you that during your studies you will often come to the photocopying point. Unfortunately, a printer and a photocopier are items that not everyone has in their student apartment, and almost everyone needs them (especially before the session).
Here is a list of some photocopying points where you will be able to print or photocopy the necessary materials: – ul. Gronostajowa 7, Campus of the Jagiellonian University – ul. Józefa Piłsudskiego 9, next to the main building of the Jagiellonian University – ul. Gołębia 10, next to the buildings of the Jagiellonian University and the Pontifical University – ul. 5. Where to live?
Well… if you are not from Krakow you have mainly 2 choices: Dormitory VS Flat.
Krakow’s universities offer rooms in dormitory buildings, most of which are located in clusters, known as student campuses: – AGH Student Campus, ul. Józef Rostafiński – in the town there are dormitories of AGH, UJ, UR, UP – Osiedle Studenckie PK, os. Stanisław Skarżyński There are also dormitories at UEK, AWF and private universities. The cost of course depends on the standard of living, the size of the dormitory and so on… Each university has its own price list.
Of course, the flats are available to rent and Facebook groups always have people searching for flatmates. Check the amenities always! 😉
The most beloved festival (an annual event for the students) happens in May, each year. So you will have time to prepare 😉 “Juwenalia” is a wonderful time when students throw all their worries away and devote themselves to having loads of fun with their friends.
The best concerts are seen there, there are multiple stages, competitions and generally… a wonderful time to be young and feel alive 🙂

7. Krakow’s nightlife
There are plenty of student clubs on the map of Krakow. To find out about events organized in individual clubs, we recommend that you follow their social media and websites on a regular basis. In the academic year, there will certainly be concerts and interesting events.

8. Where to study?
Sometimes the conditions in the apartment or dorm do not allow for learning, and sometimes it is just difficult to gather thoughts at home and concentrate properly. If you’re the type of person who likes to study in public, you’ve come to the right place. Krakow is a city with plenty of libraries! Below is a list of university libraries, where each student will be able to obtain the necessary reading and teach:
– Jagiellonian Library, al. Adama Mickiewicza 22 – AGH Main Library, AGH Student Campus, al. Adama Mickiewicza 30 – The CUT Library, ul. Warszawska 24 – Main Library of UEK, ul. Rakowicka 27 – Main Library of the University of Life Sciences, ul. Podchorążych 2 – Main Library of the University of Agriculture, al. Adama Mickiewicza 24/28
In addition to the above-mentioned places, the Provincial Public Library, located at ul. Rajska 1. The library offers a wide range of books and textbooks and provides convenient conditions for learning. Moreover, next to it, at ul. Rajska is very active in Arteteka, ie “a modern space where Users can develop their interests, create their own projects, and supplement their knowledge based on various collections and specialized programs“.

9. Cultural Krakow
It would be a pity to stay and study in Krakow and not visit this wonderful city – it has so much to offer!
You can select from cinemas to theatres to (my favourite!) amazing museums!
I know everyone will jump in to see the Wawel Castle or the Sukiennice as they are landmarks of this fine city, but there is so much more one could see!
Here are my picks:
The painting “Lady with an Ermine” at the Princes Czartoryski Museum, ul. Pijarska 15 – much better than its counterpart “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre 😉
Schindlers Factory on Ulica Lipowa 4
The Mehoffer Museum on Ulica Krupnicza 26
The 19th Century Polish Art Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Sukiennice – has 4 rooms and some of the most beautiful paintings I have seen in Poland! Romanticism, realism, Polish Impressionism, Młoda Polska (Young Poland)… and paintings that are as big as a wall!
I also recommend you check the Słowacki Theater, the Krakow Opera (on Lubicz) and the Philarmonic.
ree medical services under the National Health Fund for the academic community are offered by the Scanmed network:
– Scanmed Medical Center, ul. Armii Krajowej 5 (AGH) – ul. Akademicka 5 (AGH) – ul. Gronostajowa 7 (UJ) – ul. Warszawska 24 (PK) – ul. Rakowicka 16 (UEK) – ul. Podchorążych 2 (UP) – al. Jana Pawła II 84 (AWF) – ul. Kanonicza 23 (UPJPII)
After moving to a new city, away from your hometown, it is also worth submitting a special declaration of choosing a primary care physician, which can be downloaded online or obtained at any clinic. Then contact with the primary care physician will be faster and trouble-free.
NOTE! It is possible to change the primary care physician up to 3 times a year, and each subsequent change costs PLN 80.
That being said, I wish everyone a lovely stay in this amazing city 🙂
And in case of any questions, just drop me a line 😉
The Nights of Museums are events in which the inhabitants of Kraków have been willing to participate for years. Polish people are facing further changes related to the coronavirus pandemic. “We want to give up the possibility of replacing masks with visors or scarves. The helmets can be used additionally to the mask”, announced the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski. It is forbidden to cover your face only with visors, scarves or the so-called chimneys is to come into force this Saturday (February 27).
The government also decided to introduce a quarantine obligation for people crossing Poland’s southern border (with Slovakia and the Czech Republic). The condition for release from quarantine is presenting a negative test for the last 48 hours.
The government decided to introduce new restrictions only in one voivodship, where the highest increase in infected people is recorded.
We want the education in grades 1-3 in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship to return to the remote mode, so that galleries, museums, cinemas, and other public places will be closed.
After the announcement of this information, the highlanders, who were afraid that the government would close the Podhale businesses again, were relieved.
We are glad that there will not be another lockdown for the tourism industry, that we can still work and earn. On the other hand, this conference is a strong signal for us to take care of sanitary restrictions even more. Therefore, we appeal to all owners of hotels and guesthouses, as well as the inhabitants of Podhale, to be careful, to sensitize their guests, to follow the instructions to cover their mouth and nose with masks and to distance themselves. Together, we must ensure that we are all healthy and can continue to work.

Theaters planned for longer than 14 days!
On the other hand, Bartosz Szydłowski, artistic director of Łaźnia Nowa, admits that when announcing the repertoire for the second half of February, he hoped that theaters would remain open for longer than the conditional 14 days.
That is why on 27, 28 February, and 1 March we have planned the presentation of one of the last premieres of Łaźnia, a performance about masculinity and well-received at the Divine Comedy Festival: “Autobiography Just In Case” directed by Michał Buszewicz. It seems that we are already used to the constant changes and dynamics of the situation in the country, so work in the theater must be continuous and on a regular basis. We are glad that we will be able to continue playing because we have already felt the energy of our audience, which came back and filled the Bathhouse last weekend at the performance “Ginczanka. Recipe for the simplicity of life ”. It drives us. In March, we are planning the premiere of “Breath” directed by Franciszek Szumiński at the New Epiphanies Festival, and it may not have to be online.
Results show that the 3rd wave is accelerating in Poland. The dynamics of infections are beginning to catch up with those we dealt with at the beginning of the second wave in October last year.
dam Niedzielski, Minister of Health
The minister pointed out that the average daily infection counted for the last week practically reached the level of 8,000 cases, and a week ago it was less than 6,000. In the last week, an increase in the occupancy of beds in the covid infrastructure was also observed.
Adam Niedzielski will emphasize that the most disturbing situation concerns the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
In this voivodeship, we exceed the average for the whole country more than twice.
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz, a national consultant in the field of epidemiology, informed that one unchanging element that determines how we can avoid infection is the use of personal protection, i.e. masks.
Masks that adhere tightly to the face are able to reduce transmission, i.e. filter out over 90 percent of pathogens that are in the immediate vicinity. Helmets are not good protection, they are not recommended protection against the virus. It can be said that they constitute a mechanical barrier that, to some extent, protects our eye mucosa.
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz
The expert added that the recommended masks are surgical masks and above.
Disposable masks can also be used. The key is, however, to wear the masks so that they cover the mouth and nose.
Prof. Iwona Paradowska-Stankiewicz
The loosening of restrictions
Let us recall that in mid-February, due to the stabilization of the disease, the government decided to loosen the restrictions. Hotels and accommodation are open from mid-February. From February 12, cinemas, theaters, philharmonics, operas – all in accordance with the applicable sanitary regime and up to 50 percent. available places. Some sports facilities are also open, incl. slopes and swimming pools.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin said then that over PLN 182 billion has already been allocated to help companies affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and within three weeks from the so-called Shield 2.0 – PLN 4 billion 900 million.
Members of the government informed that new solutions regarding the restrictions are being introduced conditionally, and that further decisions will depend on the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Health informed us that we had crossed the barrier of 10,000. cases per day. This is the highest daily result since January 6. The death toll from the virus has also increased. 372 people have died in Poland due to COVID-19.
As far as Małopolska is concerned, it is ranked 7th in the latest statistics of the Ministry of Health, among all provinces with the highest daily number of infections.

Valentine’s Day is approaching and if you don’t have anything planned yet, you might consider a lovely walk and a perfect view for the day. There are places in Małopolska with beautiful, breathtaking views. They offer a magnificent panorama of the Gorce, Beskid Wyspowy or Low Mountains, and even the Tatra Mountains. So today, especially for you, I’ve decided to share those 5 Special Perfect View places with you.
KOSCIUSZKO MOUND IN KRAKOW
Erected by Cracovians (aka People of Krakow) in commemoration of the Polish national leader Tadeusz Kościuszko, is an artificial mound modeled after Kraków’s prehistoric mounds of Krak and Wanda. A serpentine path leads to the top, approximately 326 meters (1,070 ft) above sea level, with a panoramic view of the Vistula River and the city. It is a perfect spot for sunsets and sunrise moments 🙂 Highly recommend it!
VIEWING PLATFORM IN WOLA KROGULECKA
The spiral viewing platform on Wola Krogulecka is located at an altitude of 550 m above sea level. It towers over the Poprad Valley and offers wonderful views of the Sadecki Beskids, including the Radziejowa Range, the Poprad River, the Sądecka Basin, and the Beskid Wyspowy. It is called “Ślimak” – aka The Snail 🙂 Watch the video below and you will see why!
Architect: Wojciech Świątek
THE TOWN HALL IN BIECZ
Wooden stairs lead to the town hall tower, through which you can enter the viewing platform from which there is a beautiful panorama of the Ropa valley, Beskid Niski and the adjacent Carpathian Foothills.
VIEWING TOWER IN MOGIELICA
The tower offers a vast view covering, among others: Beskid Wyspowy, Beskid Sądecki, Gorce and Tatry.
CASTLE IN DOBCZYCE
The castle was first mentioned in written sources in 1362 but had been fortified since 1311. In the time of Casimir III the Great, the walls were from 5 to 9 meters thick, and the castle was a fortified stronghold. 1398 – the castle was the abode of King Władysław II Jagiełło and his wife Jadwiga. 1473 – for several months, Prince Casimir stayed here after returning from an unsuccessful expedition.
The Lubomirski family, who ruled the castle from 1585, rebuilt the Gothic fortress into a Renaissance residence in the years 1593–1594. The clocktower, chapel, and fountain were added. By 1620 the castle had 70 rooms and 3 towers. In the 1960s the site was extensively excavated. The attraction of the castle hill is the viewpoint on Pogórze and Beskidy Mountains.
So… which one would you pick? 🙂 I am biased, so I will always go with the fantastic 360 degrees view over Krakow, from the Kosciuszko Mound.
Only 3 entrepreneurs from Malopolska (Lesser Poland) have been fined by the Sanepid for opening their businesses, despite government restrictions. Penalties were imposed on 2 restaurant owners and 1 entertainment center. However, the inspectors do not reveal which specific places are meant.
“Restaurants Strike” Photo by NastyaSensei on Pexels.com
The Strike is stronger every day!
The entrepreneurs’ strike is getting stronger every day. Owners of restaurants, hotels, entertainment centers and clubs, contrary to government restrictions, open their premises. Some of them, referring to court judgments, directly believe that a ban on business activity, issued in the form of an ordinance, is inconsistent with the Constitution. Many entrepreneurs are also looking for a way to legally circumvent the restrictions.
Restaurants in Krakow re-open their doors for fear of bankruptcy
And so, for example, a dozen or so days ago, the doors for customers were opened by, among others “Tesone” restaurant in Krakow’s Ruczaj or “Wesołe Gary” restaurant in Nowa Huta. However, they did not do it for ordinary customers, because officially, according to the government regulation, it is not allowed to do it, only for … menu testers.
Those who make an appointment by phone are testers of our food. They pay us to test the dishes
says Karolina Bartosik, the owner of “Wesołych Gary”
Menu at CHEDER – Krakow, Poland
Who wants to be a menu tester? 😉
You can also “test” food at “A’Bracciate Pasta & Wine” on ul. Mieszczańska. The W19 bar in Kazimierz, Krakow, has also been operating for weeks. Last Saturday, “Czarna Owca Wino”, located in Kazimierz, was added to the list of open places in the city. Bar. ”From January 18, the Carl & Bart restaurant in Prądnik is also open.
The situation that affected us forced us to make the decision to reopen the restaurant. Our government prepared shields so leaky that we did not get any – except for PLN 5,000 from the Labor Office. This amount is at least ridiculous for 5 months of closure, which generates huge costs. During this time, we have not dismissed any of our employees and we still want to develop. However, the moment has come when we say: we have had enough. We also want to live a normal life, both we and our employees. Therefore, from Wednesday 27.01 #OpenMy!

Sanepid threatens with a raised finger
According to Sławomir Grzyb, the secretary-general of the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Polish Gastronomy (IGGP), after January 18, about 20000 gastronomic entrepreneurs excluded and omitted from aid shields decided to resume their activities.
Meanwhile, the data of the Lesser Poland Sanitary and Epidemiological Station show that only between January 14 and 26, 26 facilities from the entire voivodeship started their activity despite the prohibition resulting from the regulation of the Council of Ministers.
“These are mostly catering establishments where, during the inspection, it was found that gastronomic dishes were served on-site for consumption, and in some cases, places for dancing were also available. Among the facilities there is one ice rink, one entertainment center, one ski slope, and a shop in a shopping mall“, says Dominika Łatak-Glonek, spokeswoman for the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Krakow.
And he adds that administration penalties were imposed on 3 of the places inspected. 30 and 20 thousand PLN for two eateries and 10 thousand. PLN on the entertainment center. The remaining proceedings are pending.
Names are not given out
But which places exactly are they talking about? It is not known.
“We do not give the place for a very simple reason. As you can see, with such a large number of inspections, there are very few places that have opened despite the ban. If we indicate the name of the place, it is clear and obvious which place is meant, because, for example, only one place from the area has opened. If a given entrepreneur who has been fined will want to reveal himself, he will do so. We cannot reveal such data” – the spokeswoman cuts off
MPK is modernizing the bus fleet. New electric buses from the pool of 50 purchased by the city carrier are slowly starting to arrive in Krakow.
On Monday, January 25, the first of 50 new electric buses ordered by MPK in Krakow left the Solaris Bus & Coach factory in Bolechowice near Poznań. The bus will be delivered on a special tow truck to the Wola Duchacka Bus Service Station.
After delivery, the technical acceptance of the new bus will begin. It will be carried out entirely at the MPK depot (due to the limitations related to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, it is currently not possible for these technical approvals to take place at the manufacturer’s factory as before).
