Midsummer Nights dream - Opera Krakowska

One of the most popular works by Shakespeare, performed on the stage of the Krakow Opera by the Italian choreographer Giorgio Madia, will be available on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 6.30 pm on the Play Krakow platform.

The magical story

A few days before the wedding of the Athenian prince Theseus with the Amazon queen, three pairs of lovers become victims of the frolics of forest spirits. Hermia and Lysander, Helena and Demetrius as well as Oberon and Titania unexpectedly experience a crazy summer night full of passion and magic. And all in ancient Athens during Midsummer, on the border of sleep and reality, dreams and reality.

The history after it…

The works of William Shakespeare were many times a source of inspiration for composers. “Midsummer Night’s Dream” was so enchanted by 17-year-old Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy that he created his famous “Concert Overture” for a Shakespearean comedy, and several years later, at the request of the King of Prussia, music for the entire work, including such recognizable parts like “Scherzo” or “Wedding March”. Mendelssohn’s music, melodic, light, lyrical, romantic, with strongly marked fantasy has inspired many choreographers.
