A year under COVID 19 – Coronavirus, what have you done?
Over the month of October, residents can bring souvenirs from the pandemic period to the Krakow Museum, which will be included in an exhibition presenting the year of life of the city and its inhabitants during the pandemic. The people of Krakow can also share their stories about the lockdown and pandemic. The exhibition consisting of souvenirs will be presented next spring.
Unprecedented times under Coronavirus
When this spring pandemic locked us in our homes, an unprecedented image of Krakow and its inhabitants were created – empty streets that had so far been teeming with life even at night, ordinary everyday objects that took on new meaning, words of encouragement presented in the city space, with time on the faces “Homemade” masks and helmets appeared on passers-by – today an ordinary item that should be remembered when entering a shop or a tram, which only a few months ago was in the possession of a few.
Documenting the Outbreak of COVID19
The Museum of Krakow wants to document this special period by creating an exhibition of such souvenirs of residents telling about the “pandemic” Krakow.
“Since April, we have been asking you, Cracovians, for all souvenirs and stories documenting the pandemic, which will later be used in the creation of the exhibition! During the lockdown, our branches were closed for 2 months, but now – with your health and safety in mind, we are able to start our campaign to collect items related to the pandemic!” – informs the Museum of Krakow.
Where will the Expo be held?
The exhibition of the collected exhibits – souvenirs will be held in March 2021 in the Hipolit House as a kind of chronicle of the plague. What will we see on it?
“We have a promised diary that a resident of Krakow keeps from the first day of the pandemic. This particular journal is still being written, so it will only come to us. The exhibition will also include notes by Łukasz Orbitowski, which the writer was keeping at that time, and one of the sculptors from Krakow will donate the sculpture” – lists Krzysztof Haczewski from the Krakow Museum. “The director of the Krakow Museum handed over a helmet made of a PET bottle with his own hands, there will be one of the masks that employees prepared during the lockdown for Nursing Home, we have Vistula masks and a record of home training of Wisła and Cracovia players, and even a jacket made for the needs of the pandemic. We are waiting for all items related to this period, bringing the story of a pandemic”.
Collecting time is on!!!
The mementos of the pandemic period will be collected by the Museum of Krakow until October 23, 2020. Bearing in mind the safety of Krakow residents who want to support the museum with “pandemic” items, in order to deliver them, please contact the museum by e-mail in advance (artefakty@muzeumkrakowa.pl) to arrange a convenient the date for their submission.
In addition to material traces of the pandemic period, the Museum of Krakow also collects stories from Krakow residents about this special period. They should be sent by e-mail to m.zdeb@muzeumkrakowa.pl

First Airport In Poland to receive the distinction
Kraków Airport is the first airport in Poland to receive the ACI Airport Health accreditation, awarded by the International Airports Council – ACI (Airports Council International). This program introduces high standards of airport protection against the COVID-19 pandemic so that staying at airports and flying is fully safe and comfortable for both passengers and all staff members.
The rules of conduct in relation to the COVID-19 threat have been developed by the best aviation and health experts and approved by key international aviation organizations – ICAO, EASA and ACI.
Accreditation is valid for 1 year!
The ACI Airport Health accreditation has just been granted – valid for a year. It mainly concerns the adopted cleaning technology and the scope of disinfection, the application of the principles of social distancing, the security of airport staff, the method of informing about sanitary rules, and other amenities for passengers (e.g. full and free access passengers to disinfectants).
Granting the accreditation to the Krakow airport was preceded by a special audit. Successful completion of the accreditation process is a clear and legible signal for passengers, carriers, employees, and airport users that a given airport can be a model in the area of health care and effectively protects everyone against COVID-19 infection.
What does the President of Krakow Airport say?
“We are glad that Kraków Airport has joined the group of airports with the highest standard of service, where the most important is the safety and comfort of passengers and all people working at the airport. We put a lot of effort to ensure that the standards in this regard were washed to the highest. We decided that it is worth making this effort not only because of the need to protect the most valuable good, which is human life and health, but also because it is crucial for our industry to rebuild trust in travel and flying. A sense of security is the foundation of trust” – comments Radosław Włoszek, president of Kraków Airport.
The first airport in Poland to sign the “Aviation Industry Charter for COVID-19”
Let us recall that Kraków Airport was the first airport in Poland to sign the declaration “Aviation Industry Charter for COVID-19”, initiated and prepared by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The main purpose of the declaration is to apply and promote new security rules against the spread of COVID-19 by air operators and airport managers.
Bread, baked soup cups, because we are talking about them, are an unusual product of the Soup Culture brand, which was created and patented by them. From the beginning of the company’s activity, until today, Soup Culture soups operate in 10 countries. Poland is among them. This year, this month, this October, Krakow will join the group of cities where edible cups are already available.
When and where will Soup Culture open?
Healthy eating enthusiasts from Krakow will open their soup shop on October 16, at ul. st. Sebastiana 10, in Śródmieście. In the beginning, the offer will include over 50 flavors, composed into the weekly menu of cream soups, cooked without the addition of meat, food chemicals, flavor enhancers, or flour thickeners.
“The main idea of Soup Culture is to promote health, so the dishes are made of fresh and balanced products, often seasonal ones, and what impresses guests the most is the packaging in which the creams are served. Edible, freshly-baked mugs consist of a selected type of flour (wheat, whole grain, gluten-free) with the addition of water, vegetable oil, and spices” – we can read in the release sent to the media.
Be prepared, Krakow! Soup Culture is up!
An attractive, colorful range of colors is achieved by adding juice or powder from vegetables or algae: beetroot, carrot, spirulina. Soups and cups are prepared within the sight of customers, so a visit to Soup Culture is sometimes, apart from the logical effect of satisfying hunger, an attraction in itself.
“Customers record the mug-making process and pass on the news that when you want to be eco-friendly, you can” – we read in the press release.
About Soup Culture
The company started its existence in Kiev in 2014 with a simple goal – to limit the use of disposable dishes made of artificial materials in street food catering. In addition, she wanted to introduce a healthy, vegetarian product to the market, available in a convenient form, as an alternative to the increasingly inferior quality of fast food.
To this end, it created its own technology for the production of edible dishes and began to expand abroad. Poland was the first country to have its Soup Culture outside Ukraine. It was here that the creator of the edible cup oven came from Kyiv and here he created the production of machines that distinguish the brand on the catering market. The production created in Warsaw supplies all Soup Culture outlets in Poland and abroad with stoves.

Does the metro in Krakow make sense, or do the prefabricated housing estates have a future? what changes in the construction law will come into force any day, how much can be gained from energy-efficient buildings, how to protect tunnels in case of fire – such various topics appeared, in the most recent edition of the Construction Forum organized in Krakow by the Galician Chamber of Construction – its 14th edition.
Nothing could stop this Congress!
“The Coronavirus epidemic did not stop most construction investments in Poland, but the Construction Forum, organized by us every year, took place – like most events in Poland and the world – with a slight delay. They also had to be moved from Zakopane to Kraków, to the hospitable auditorium of the Kraków University of Technology. However, one thing has not changed: the subject and purpose of the meeting. The point is for the construction industry to remain the driving force behind the development of the Polish economy,” explains the president of the Central Bank of GIB, Piotr Hrabia.
New Government Funds!
At the beginning of the Forum, Andrzej Adamczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure, stated that the achievements of the construction industry in Poland made him proud and optimistic. “We were not disturbed by the epidemic, the production and supply chain was not interrupted, which made our neighbors notice this success as well” – said the minister.
He also announced new government funds for infrastructure investments in voivodship cities. The spontaneous reaction of Minister Adamczyk to the speech by Józef Seweryn from SUPO-CERBER devoted to fog technologies of extinguishing fires in tunnels was widespread attention of the Forum participants: during the lecture, Andrzej Adamczyk called his subordinates to make sure what the fire protection in the tunnels under construction in Świnoujście looked like. and on the S3 route.
Prefabricated houses = The future?
During the conference, scientists from the Cracow University of Technology discussed, inter alia, the issue of the functioning of prefabricated housing estates, which in terms of urban planning formed a coherent whole, as a space for residents’ life (Prof. Andrzej Białkiewicz, Ph.D., Eng). Dr hab. Eng. Marcin Furtak pointed out that the technology of energy-efficient construction results in the appearance of a new, different architectural style, characterized by functional and movable elements of the facade – increasing energy efficiency.
Prof. Kazimierz Furtak analyzed the benefits of using 3D printing in construction, which causes 25 to even 40 % savings in materials and from 45 to 80 % savings on labor costs. It also allows the reduction of energy consumption by half and CO2 emissions by 70 percent. Dr hab. Eng. Andrzej Szarata wondered about the purposefulness of building the subway in Krakow, the more so as – as he emphasized – the expected results can be achieved by moving some fragments of the existing tram lines underground.
Results of the “Construction of the Year 2019” Competition
The participants could also see the results of the “Construction of the Year 2019” competition, in which facilities from Małopolska took first place in several categories. “These were the lookout tower and the treetop path in Krynica, Arena “Jaskółka” in Tarnów, the new University Hospital in Krakow and a residential building in Krakow at ul. Głowacki” – mentioned Dr. Eng. Stanisław Karczmarczyk, vice president of the Małopolska Regional Chamber of Civil Engineers, co-organizer of the Forum.
Safety in the Construction Sites!
In the final speech, Małgorzata Boryczko, the poviat building supervision inspector, spoke about safety at construction sites and during the operation of buildings. She also discussed the amendment to the construction law, which came into force on September 19 and brings many simplifications in both the issuing of building permits and the legalization of lawlessness.
Moving towards the future!
“I am glad that the conference took place despite all the adversities and that the community of entrepreneurs and construction engineers could meet, although in limited conditions. I hope that in a year we will return to our traditional forum formula” – comments Iwona Zapart, head of the Active Group, an institution that has been organizing this conference for years.

The Antifascist Kraków group with the support of the Nostromo Soundsystem team is organizing a specific demonstration – “Anti-Fascist Street Party”. Deadline – September 19 (Saturday). The demonstration will start at 17 on Napoleon’s Great Army Square near Wawel, then it will pass through the streets of Krakow. The organizers remind about safety rules, i.e. masks and keeping the 2 meters distance. Participants are to protest with music, dance, rhythmic marches, and fun.
Let’s just hope it does not degenerate…
“To the rhythm of live music, we will show that we choose values such as freedom, diversity and solidarity. We want to express our resistance in an innovative way, taking into account local realities. We will appreciate the daily courage and solidarity of people who are still not free in this country. We will show them our support. We will go together for the world we want: free, equal and just”, announces Antifascist Krakow.
Anti Fascist Party in Krakow
The organizers write about fatigue – as they put it – with distorting history or imposing extreme right-wing propaganda. “We do not want to live in Poland where citizens are deprived of human rights and even humanity. We want to live in a place where all minorities are respected, where we approach other people with kindness, regardless of their skin color, gender, origin, or sexual orientation”– wrote Antifascist Krakow, announcing the demonstration.
It was also emphasized that the organizers of the anti-fascist street party refer to the rich tradition of dance protests, which – started in the jazz cellars of Nazi-occupied Paris – are held to this day, such as the anti-fascist street party in Berlin directed against the AfD party in 2018 or the annual Rave 161 BPM in Warsaw, which was created “in response to the fascinating March of Independence”.

From mid-September all tenants have to leave the buildings of the former tobacco factory
A hotel, a space for start-ups, as well as places related to culture and gastronomy, will be built here. As early as mid-September, the owners of restaurants, bars, and cafes located in the Tytano complex must leave the former factory buildings. At the end of September, this place will return to its Spanish owners – no wonder that the residents want to use the last moments of Dolne Młynów in their current form and spend time there with their friends.
Drone view over Dolne Młyny, Krakow – Poland
I don’t know about you, but I will miss having this eclectic, freestyle place 🙁 Having around 15000 square meters, along with different buildings and different floors, it was the “Go-To!” place of many years… until the Coronavirus pandemic hit and many restaurants were affected. You can track their September events here, on their Facebook page.
All the best to the Dolne Młynów team, wherever they may go! 🙁
The hemisphere-shaped tent with a semicircular screen embedded in the dome is a spherical cinema – a novelty in the Garden of Experiences – Stanisław Lem. During the screenings, viewers can feel like participants of film events.
How does this odd cinema work?!
The impression of being a participant of the events was achieved thanks to the special structure of the cinema, which is a dome tent with a diameter of 8 meters with a laser projector with a lens, the so-called “fisheye” placed in the dome. thanks to this, the image gives the impression of “surrounding” the viewer.
How many seats does it have? How often the shows take place?
The projection room has approximately 30 seats. 3D and 2D projections will take place every day, at full hours. Tickets to the Planetarium can be purchased at the Experiences Garden ticket office for 8 PLN (an admission ticket to the Experience Garden is also valid). Currently, there is a reservation of seats for screenings.
What kind of movies will it show?
The repertoire will include films on various topics, for different age groups – as always in the Garden of Experiences, you can learn a lot from them and learn in a very attractive way. What will cinema viewers see in the Garden of Experiences?
“On the wings of dreams” is an extraordinary adventure about the history of aviation, allowing you to glide in a balloon, airship, plane, and … a spaceship. Viewers will discover the mystery of the flight with Leonardo da Vinci, the Montgolfier brothers, the Wright brothers, and other inventors. The film is intended for the age group: 7+.
Mars has fascinated people for centuries. Once mysterious, it may soon become our second home. We owe this chance to people like Johannes Kepler – steadfast in their quest to discover the truth, curious about the world, not afraid of challenges. It is our duty to continue their work: dream and discover! “Explore” 3D is an adventure for children aged 10 and up.
For the youngest, the cinema’s repertoire includes the movie “Mice and the Moon”, a lunar fairy tale for curious children, which helps to answer some questions about the moon and explains the scientific facts in a friendly way. In turn, “The Adventures of Rosetta and Philae” is a story about the Rosetta probe and the Philae lander, which after 10 years of flight and a distance of 6.5 billion kilometers through the Solar System in 2014. to his destination, ie comet 67P / Czuriumov-Gerasimenko. Rosetta studied the comet from a distance, and Philae landed on the surface. The animated screening tells the story of a successful mission prepared by the European Space Agency, allowing you to present important discoveries in a less serious way than usual through animation for children.
These are just a few selections from the cinema’s repertoire, a detailed program until October is available on the website of the Garden of Experiences.
The 17th edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival was originally supposed to take place in May, but in the face of the pandemic, the organizers decided to postpone the event to September. This year’s festival, where we will see the best documentaries, will take place from 4 to 18 September in seven cities. The people of Krakow will have the opportunity to see selected films from the 17th edition at the Kino Pod Baranami from 11 to 13 September.
What is the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival?
The Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is the largest documentary film festival in Poland. It is also the only film festival in Europe that takes place simultaneously in 7 different cities. Documentary premieres can be watched in cinemas in Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, and from 2020 Poznań).
As every year, Kino Pod Baranami will show selected films from this year’s edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival. Full-length documentaries showing a look at various phenomena of the present day will be shown on the weekend from 11 to 13 September.
17th DOCS AGAINST GRAVITY
The program
6 unique documentaries portraying the phenomena of the modern world will screen in the Kino Pod Baranami. A special role in the review program will be played by women whose collective portrait is presented in the international documentary by Yanna Arthus-Bertrand and Anastasia Mikova. “Woman” is a unique project, in which 2,000 female characters from as many as 50 different countries took part.
Out of the multitude of female voices, Polish documentary filmmakers Małgorzata Goliszewska and Kasia Mateja choose one, belonging to the elegant seventy-year-old Jola, who in the film “A Lesson of Love” reveals her doubts about the emerging feeling for Wojtek, whom she met during the dance.
The dark face of new technologies is shown by Tonje Hessen Schei in “iHuman”, a warning essay on artificial intelligence. What will this novelty ultimately turn out to be? Will it be a salvation for mankind or a curse? The alarmist tone of the film is balanced by Tarantino’s documentary “Bastard of Cinema”, filled with pure fun, devoted to the work of one of the most important contemporary directors. The film features a number of actors known from the production of Quentin Tarantino (including Tim Roth, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz), who reveal the backstage of famous titles and talk about the way the creator of “Reservoir Dogs” works.
The program of the weekend review also included two films dealing with the topic of religiosity. “Wall of Shadows” by Eliza Kubarska is a portrait of life in the shadow of great mountains, one of which is considered a divine place, inaccessible to people. Sherpas who live in a village at the foot of the massif are faced with a difficult question: can they break the eternal taboo and climb the sacred mountain to provide for their family?
An ironic look at the sphere of the sacred is offered in the documentary “How God Seeked Karel”, produced by Vít Klusák and Filip Remunda, authors of the famous “Bohemian Dream”. Their latest production presents the adventures of a group of Czech skeptics who set off on a journey through Poland to get to know the face of its religiosity.
On April 10, 2020, the elite of Law and Justice politicians flocked to the Wawel Cathedral on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Smolensk disaster. It was the time of the greatest lockdown during the Coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, PiS politicians did not keep an appropriate distance and did not wear masks. Now the prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into this matter and will check whether there has been a crime. Previously, the prosecutor’s office saw no such need.

Rules are made to be broken by those who hold the power :/
April 10, 2020, was the 10th anniversary of the Smolensk disaster. That day at Wawel Cathedral, at the grave of Lech and Maria Kaczyński, not only President Andrzej Duda appeared, but also a large group of leading PiS politicians. Among them was Prime Minister Beata Szydło, Deputy Prime Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz, Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, and Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Ryszard Terlecki. The entire delegation appeared at Wawel Castle during the coronavirus pandemic when everyone was advised to stay at home at that time, and there were calls not to visit their relatives’ graves.
They broke the law – where are the consequences?!
The Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior informed about the possibility of a crime being committed by PiS politicians. Its representatives notified the prosecutor’s office about the possibility of the crime. They referred to the ban on the organization of assemblies in force at that time and the possibility of causing an epidemiological threat.
However, the prosecutor’s office found that there were no grounds for the investigation and refused to initiate it. Now she has changed her mind after the appeal was lodged by representatives of the Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior.
“The complaint against the refusal to initiate proceedings submitted by the president of the Center, Konrad Dulkowski and the founder, Rafał Gaweł, was accepted. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków considered it justified and decided that an investigation would be conducted into the illegal meeting of politicians associated with PiS and President Andrzej Duda at Wawel, to which occurred during the pandemic,” we can read in the Center’s statement.
The photo report showed that the tomb of the tragically deceased presidential couple was also visited by prominent politicians of Law and Justice. At that time, it was the time of the greatest restrictions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. You could leave the house only in essential life situations, such as going to work or going to the store to buy food, to the pharmacy or clinic
One of the regulations of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki introduced at that time, inter alia, a ban on the use of areas with public functions and green areas covered with vegetation. According to the 2004 Nature Conservation Act, cemeteries also belong to such areas.
PiS politicians who visited Wawel on April 10, 2020, did not have masks and did not keep a sufficient distance between themselves.
What are your thoughts on this? I, for one, hate it when the Law is many only for some and can be broken by others. Others that are in power and give no flying f*** :/
It has been 45 years since the “Music in Old Krakow” Festival was established. When undertaking the organization of the Festival years ago, the team asked themselves what should it stand for in the life of the city, what features should it have that distinguish it from other events? Taking this into account, the event was given its name: “Music in Old Krakow”.
The Festival Today
Music has been associated with Krakow since the Middle Ages, through its association with the Jagiellonian University, its traditions live to this day in our city, rightly considered to be the leading one in the cultural life of Poland. The festival is of an executive nature. The most outstanding artists are invited to take part in it, who propose the program themselves, and thus guarantee its best interpretation. Proposals of thematic and occasional programs constitute the second group. The festival also tries to take into account the works of Krakow composers and enables artists of the young generation to start.
Patron of “Music in Old Lviv”
For six years, “Music in Old Krakow” has also been the patron of its twin festival “Music in Old Lviv” – a city that played a huge role in the history of Polish music. It is impossible to mention how many artists took part in the Festival. It is a huge crowd of performers from Poland and abroad. Musicians from Krakow, and above all the musicians of Capella Cracoviensis, soloists, chamber orchestra, madrigalists, Royal Rorantists, Collegium Zieleński, constituting the artistic background of many concerts.
The festival has grown into the musical landscape of Krakow and has become an impulse for the birth of many new events of this type in Poland. Its existence is approved by the inhabitants of the city. It has always been (and is still) appreciated by the authorities of Krakow.
The Festival during COVID Times
Despite the difficult time, the team tries not to give up and serve the residents with “Music in Old Krakow”. The festival has grown into the musical landscape of Krakow and has become an impulse for the birth of many new events of this type in Poland.
Due to the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, the organizers weren’t able to invite guests from abroad – and only in recent years, the festival featured acclaimed musicians such as Grigory Sokolov, Ivan Monighetti, Steven Isserlis, Emma Kirkby and the Philharmonia Quartett Berlin and Cikada Ensemble. This year’s program includes Cracovian musicians only.
