In March 2021, 38,870 passengers used the services of the Krakow airport, which is 85% less than in March 2020, when the pandemic began and the government announced the first related restrictions in Poland. The March result is at the level of February, when due to anti-Covid restrictions, permanent lockdown in European tourism, and closed borders around the world, 33,046 travelers, i.e. 95% of passengers, used the services of Kraków Airport, less than in February 2020 (then the airport handled 655,000 people!).
New network connections – will tourists come?
At the end of March, the airport in Krakow-Balice showed a new network of connections for the upcoming summer season. Theoretically, it has already entered into force, but in fact, many flights will only become possible after the current wave of the pandemic has subsided. Poland has been breaking records of morbidity and deaths since the beginning of the plague and has been at the forefront of countries worst affected by the coronavirus for 2 weeks. New government restrictions come into force all the time, and other countries severely limit the possibilities of the arrival of Poles. This will only change when the epidemiological situation improves significantly. Airlines and the authorities of Kraków Airport hope that such a radical improvement will take place before the summer holidays, and many connections will take place normally at the end of April and May.
Carriers make efforts to make the network of connections as attractive as possible, but many lines decide to introduce individual directions with a slight delay – from May or June. We believe that we will overcome the pandemic together, and despite a number of restrictions that will probably stay with us for longer, passengers will soon be using the services of the Krakow airport
Radosław Włoszek, president of Kraków Airport
A new, constant mission, due to COVID
He adds that Kraków Airport is consistently implementing the mission of rebuilding the network of connections and safe return of passengers to the Kraków airport.
Kraków and Małopolska will again gain tourists, thanks to the investments included in the General Plan of Kraków-Balice Airport, which will allow for the expansion of the modern infrastructure of our airport. From the very beginning, we were aware of the challenges that lie ahead, which are only magnified by the time of the pandemic, but our priorities remain unchanged

New COVID rules at the airport in Krakow-Balice
Let us recall that, in accordance with the government regulation, Krakow Airport introduced at the end of March new rules for quarantining travelers returning to Poland from abroad. Border Guard officers verify the possession of quarantine release authorizations. People crossing the state border, which is the internal (Schengen) border, must have a negative result of the diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2.
If the passenger presents a negative result of a text written up to 48 hours before arrival to Poland, he will be able to be released from quarantine. In the absence of such a test, the traveler is obliged to undergo quarantine, from which he will be released if the covid test performed within 48 hours of crossing the border gives a negative result.
All persons crossing the state border constituting the external border (Non-Schengen) will be subject to the obligation to undergo quarantine, from which a negative test result will be released, performed within 48 hours of crossing the border in the territory of the Republic of Poland.

The new website of Kraków Airport
In order to provide passengers with the latest information, Kraków Airport has launched a new website, developed on the basis of a survey of consumer behavior; the analysis of these data allowed for the appropriate segregation of content and its arrangement in accordance with the expectations of the platform users. The website is also fully friendly to people with disabilities, e.g. eyesight, hearing, movement, but also with intellectual disabilities or cognitive disorders.
